Fidget Necklace | Birb

$28.00

This pendant was created through experimentation!

It is cut out of a slab of porcelain that had underglazes printed on it (using my own personal method for printing on clay, involving paper & a spoon!)

⊛ This pendant (along with the other ones) was made with the purpose of being a stylish “fidget necklace”.
⊛ Each one was created & manipulated with the idea of “tacticality” (which is, apparently, not a word, but I have been & will be using it anyway).
⊛ The front of this pendant has been smoothed out, & dots of smooth black glaze have been added for extra touchiness.
⊛ The sides have been glazed black.
⊛ The back has been left unglazed, & has the imprint of canvas. It has been sanded down a bit to smoothen the feel out, but the bumps of the canvas can still be felt.

Why make this?

I’ve worn a necklace regularly since grade school (at least) & I monkey with it throughout the day. I’m very tactile-sensitive myself, & have a variety of necklaces that have different feels, & will usually choose which necklace I’ll wear that day based on what my fingertips want to feel — smoothness? Roughness? Another sort of texture? A mix?

Recently, I finished a mug for a customer & decorated part of it with small dots of glaze. The dots created a bumpy texture against the bare clay body. It was a WONDERFUL FEELING. All I could think was, “I want to carry this mug around everywhere for the sole purpose of touching these dots”.

So then I thought, “well… why not make pendants with these dots?”
…which then turned into a bunch of touch-experiment pendants consisting of various textures.

So you can fidget with ~style~

On another note…
This pendant, along with the others list in my shop, are all cut from the same “cloth” — in this case, the same slab.
In the beginning, each pendant fit together perfectly like a puzzle, as I cut them all at the same time from the same slab of porcelain.
After they were all cut, each piece was individually manipulated & refined to create the shape that it now is.
Each piece cut from the slab influenced the next — each one was (& still is) a puzzle piece.

Each person who owns one of these necklaces is connected.

This pendant is on a 24” Chain.
To preserve the integrity of the chain provided, do not wear whilst showering, swimming, or exercising.
Keep in a dry place; avoid keeping the necklace in a room with high humidity, such as the bathroom.
If the chain becomes wet, simply dry it.

*The chain is silver-plated metal; the lobster clasp & jump rings are silver-plated alloy.
